Montenegro: Bogićevica

Bogićevica is a mountain range that is part of Prokletije, on the border between Montenegro and Albania. This area has many peaks above 2000m, with wide gentle plateaus and steep ridges. It is one of the wildest places in the Balkans: there are no ski lifts and no conventional infrastructure.

We chose this area specifically because of its geographical position, which allows it to hold snow even in the least snowy years. It is one of the few places in the Balkans where you can really count on good conditions in winter.

There are no ski lifts — only your own strength: ski touring or snowshoeing. This is about wild nature, silence, and solitude. You definitely need backcountry skiing experience and a full avalanche kit.

You feel like you're on a real expedition here. Wild terrain, complete immersion. Over 8 days, we encountered only one group of French climbers — and that was it.

As for connectivity... well, that's another story. The huts stand in a valley, so cell signal comes and goes. After skiing, you have to walk around to confirm that everything is okay and that rescuers don't need to be called. But honestly — without this quirk, there wouldn't be that same feeling of wildness and isolation.

The place is incredibly beautiful. Climbs and descents are super enjoyable, and the views are stunning. There are many easy lines. In a day, you can easily do two fantastic descents and feel completely fulfilled.
